National Incident Management System:
In March 2004, the Department of Homeland Security released the National Incident Management System (NIMS) as required by a Homeland Security Presidential Directive. NIMS is used by federal, state, and local organizations to coordinate emergency preparedness and incident management. It is the first standardized approach to incident management and response, establishing a uniform set of processes and procedures that emergency responders at all levels of government will use to conduct response operations. There are currently six courses that are required in order for individual or organization to be considered NIMS compliant which include:
- ICS 100
- ICS 200
- ICS 300
- ICS 400
- IS 700
- IS 800.A
Please note that not all levels are required for all individuals. To determine what level of training is required of an individual based on their level of responsibility, please click here. It is also important to understand that ICS 300 and ICS 400 are courses that must be conducted in a classroom setting. These classes will be offered by Anderson County Emergency Management in the near future, tentative dates are as follows:
- ICS 300 - January 26 - 29, 2009
- ICS 400 - February 16 - 17, 2009
ALL employees of Anderson County Emergency Medical Services are required to complete the following NIMS classes. You may use the following links to complete the NIMS Independent Study Program. Upon completion please submit copies of your certificates to the Director of Education.
