Sweet Named Director of ACEMS:

Anderson County Mayor Rex Lynch along with the Anderson County EMS Advisory Committee has recommended Nathaniel Sweet as the new Director of Anderson County Emergency Services. Sweet will assume the position following the recent retirement of Robert Byrd, who had served in that capacity for over ten years. Sweet will assume the position of EMS Director for Anderson County on May 25th, 2009.

The EMS Advisory Board, comprised of county commissioners, physicians and various local emergency service leaders conducted an extensive interview and selection process after the April 28th resignation of Robert L. Byrd Jr. Anderson County Mayor Rex Lynch said that while four strong candidates were interviewed, in the end he was extremely pleased with the outcome. "Our EMS Board gave overwhelming support for Nathan. This was a very difficult decision as we had four strong finalist," Lynch said. I am very pleased with the EMS Boards diligence and I stand confident that we have chosen a preeminent EMS Director to continue one of the finest EMS Systems in Tennessee."

In addition to Mayor Lynch's support, members of the EMS Advisory Board were excited about the position. EMS Board member Steven Newby noted Mr. Sweet's continued service to the county. According to Newby, Nathan Sweet has shown "exceptional leadership skills" throughout his career and throughout the interview process. ACEMS Medical Director and EMS Board member Erik Petersen also expressed his excitement with the decision. "This decision can allow the citizens of Anderson County to rest confident knowing that under Nathan's leadership ACEMS will continue to provide the utmost patient care and as a service will furthermore remain at the top in the state of Tennessee." Petersen said. In addition, Anderson County Health Department Director Art Miller voiced his support for the recommendation. "This is an exciting day for Emergency Services in East Tennessee. The EMS Board could not have chosen a more valuable candidate to lead this service," Miller said.

With over 7 years of EMS service to Anderson County, Mr. Sweet currently presides over Advanced Life Support Operations for ACEMS. Prior to his current service, Mr. Sweet served in the United States Air Force with both foreign and domestic tours of duty.
