When you dial 911...
There are several important things to keep in mind when reporting an emergency. Understanding these things and keeping them in mind while on the phone will allow us to find and assist you quickly with less confusion. Did you know it's possible to dial 911 from any phone, wired or cellular, free of charge? You may also dial 911 from any pay phone without depositing a coin. If you have an emergency, simply pick up the nearest phone and dial 9-1-1. Once connected to the 911 operator:
- Give the operator your complete address or location including apartment number
- Tell the operator what kind of emergency or problem you may be experiencing
- It is important to speak slow and clear...remain calm, do not yell or scream
- Give the operator as much information as possbile, including your name
- The operator may ask a lot of questions...be patient and answer appropriately
- If possible, give the operator a description of your house or inform them if several houses share the same driveway. Is your address marked on your house or mailbox?
- Please do not hang up before speaking with the operator, if you do they will call you back and there is a likely chance a police unit may be sent to your residence.
If you do not have an emergency but still need to speak with a police officer, firefighter, or EMS staff you may request a non-emergency response. You may contact the Anderson County Sheriffs Department on their non-emergency line at (865) 457-2414. If you need to request a non-emergent ambulance or fire response please call (865) 457-2520.
