Welcome to our site...

Anderson County Emergency Medical Services is responsible for providing primary prehospital care to the citizens of Anderson County, Tennessee. Our services include emergency, non-emergency, and convalescent transports that account for nearly 24,000 calls for service annually. We operate a total of six Advanced Life Support units and five Basic Life Support units covering an area of approximately 338 square miles and a population of 73,400. These units are housed within six stations that are strategically placed throughout the county to optimize emergency response time. Our ALS staff operate on a 24 hours on, 48 hours off shift rotation with a roaming Paramedic supervisor available at all times. Our service is composed of approximately one-hundred full and part time employees trained to various levels of care that include: EMT-IV, Paramedics, and Critical Care Paramedics. We are also fortunate to have an aeromedical helicopter operated by University of Tennessee Lifestar based within our county.

Anderson County EMS has had four Directors during its 41 year history. Sam Spessard being the first EMS Director for Anderson County, started at the service's conception and served until 1975. Director Spessard was succeeded by Robert McKamey in 1975 and served as Director until 1996 when he was succeeded by Karen Campbell who provided oversight of the service under the title of Administrative Assistant until Robert Byrd was hired as the next Director in 1998. Director Byrd served in that position until 2009 and was succeeded by current Director Nathan Sweet.
